If you have decided to throw a Christmas-in-July party this summer hoping to beat the blues associated with long nights, warm temperatures, and boredom, use the following items to decorate your backyard. Once you have set up all of the features, your property will be reminiscent of a Christmas setting, helping you and your guests imagine that you have fast-forwarded to December.

Christmas Lights

Purchase wholesale Christmas lights from a retailer like River City Lights. Decorate large trees that border your property and the edge of the awning that is covering your outdoor patio. If you are going to be barbecuing burgers and hot dogs on your deck, wrap strands of lights around the railing that encloses the area or across the side of your home that the deck is connected to. If you would really like to wow your guests, purchase lights that appear to be moving, such as ones that resemble dripping icicles or twinkling stars.

Select one tree in your yard to be used as the main Christmas tree that gifts will be placed under. If your guests bring their children to the party (and if some of the adults would like to participate), have the kids help you add lights and a variety of ornaments to the tree.

Shiny, Wrapped Packages

Wrap shiny, foil paper around plain boxes. Secure the paper with tape and attach a large bow to the top of each 'package'. Wrap some real gift items to mix in with the decorative boxes, as well. The gifts can be small tokens of your friendship that can be given to each attendee, such as key chains, picture frames, or candles. Attach a fancy name tag to each wrapped gift that has an actual item inside.

Place the decorative packages, as well as the real ones, underneath the Christmas tree. Ask a friend or family member to dress up as Santa Claus and have them hand out each of the gifts while sitting in a chair that has been placed next to the tree.

Candy Cane Adornments

Purchase some foam flotation sticks that are used in swimming pools. Use acrylic or latex paint and a paintbrush to cover each foam stick with slanted stripes that are red and white. Add the paint in a well-ventilated area and wait for the surface of each flotation stick to dry completely once it has been covered. Bend one end of each foam stick until all of the flotation devices resemble candy canes. Secure the candy canes to hooks that are attached to sturdy surfaces around your property.

Once decorations have been prepared, plan the menu, music selections, and activities that will be offered at the party. On the night of the event, enjoy the time spent with your guests and savor the decorations and Christmas-themed activities that you have selected.
