Sewing projects can result in the creation of cute clothing, bags, or toys. These same sewing projects can also create numerous fabric scraps. Rather than tossing your old fabric scraps into the garbage, give them new life by using them to create one of the following three items.

1. Create your own washi tape.

You have likely seen tutorials for craft projects that feature colorful and vibrant pieces of washi tape. While this tape is unique, it can also be quite expensive. Using just a little time and ingenuity, you can easily create your own washi tape from old fabric scraps.

All you need to do is invest in some double-sided tape and then lay strips of tape down on the backside of your fabric strips. Cut around the tape with some scissors, store it on a piece of heavy-duty plastic, and use your homemade washi tape as needed for various craft projects.

2. Go glam with your makeup brushes.

Makeup brushes are something that most women use on a daily basis, and a lot of these brushes can be utilitarian in their appearance. If you want to give your own makeup brushes a glamorous makeover, then reaching for your leftover fabric scraps could be the answer.

Find some scraps in a pattern that you enjoy, and then roll the scraps around the handles of your makeup brushes and cut them to size. Affix the fabric to the brush handles using a decoupage medium and then apply another layer of the decoupage medium over the top of the fabric to seal it. The end product will be colorful and unique makeup brushes that you will enjoy using each day.

3. Create patchwork bookmarks.

Reading is a great activity to help you expand your knowledge base and pass the time. If you enjoy curling up with a good book, then you could benefit from using your old fabric scraps to create a patchwork bookmark.

Find several scrap pieces in coordinating patterns. Cut smaller patches from each scrap and then sew these patches together. Once you have created a patchwork tapestry, cut a few rectangular shapes, and finish off the edges on your sewing machine. This process will supply you with some colorful patchwork bookmarks that won't damage your favorite novels.

Finding ways to put your old scraps to good use can be a great way to cut down on your sewing waste in the future. Get more ideas from a fabric store near you.
